Aerovironment has unveiled an air-launched unmanned logistics air vehicle (ULAV) designed to be deployed from the tail ramp of large transport aircraft or hand-launched from smaller aircraft. The unusual pop-out tandem wing design - designated Hawkeye - has been under development for two and a half years for the US Special Operations Command. The project is managed by the US Naval Air Systems Command and air-vehicle flight testing was completed recently. Decisions on whether to proceed to production are expected early in 2005.
