Air Macau has plunged into the red, taking a 75.7 million pataca ($9.5 million) loss for 1998 after profits of 79 million patacas over the previous 12 months. The loss comes despite a reported 14% increase in passenger traffic and a 42% rise in cargo turnover during the year. Air Macau, an Airbus A320-family operator, serves 12 Asian destinations and is restructuring its route network to eliminate unprofitable services, shelving plans for flights to Europe.
