Air Malta has opted for Airbus over Boeing for its fleet renewal, bringing to an end two years of negotiations. The airline has concluded a 12-aircraft lease deal with International Lease Finance (ILFC) for a mix of CFM International CFM56-powered A319s and A320s. The deal involves a three-year sale and lease back arrangement with ILFC for Air Malta's two A320-200s and three Boeing 737-300s. The new A320 family aircraft will be leased for 12 years. Air Malta operates four A320s, two 737-200s and seven 737-300s.
