The view is the same but the fashions change both in aircraft and the people watching.

Back in 1948 the Society of British Aerospace companies (SBAC) organised the Farnborough show for the first time.

The highlight was the Vickers Viscount and for the exhibitors, it was the huge tented complex.

The pictures, part of the massive library of photographs dating back nearly 90 years held by the Quadrant Picture Library, under the ‘Flight Collection' banner, bring back streams of memories for regular showgoers.

The library also holds the latest pictures which appear in Flight International as well as the detailed cutaways which appear regularly in the magazine.

Many exhibitors use the library for pictures old and new for their chalets and stands.

Quadrant manager Kim Hearn says that she is already taking enquiries for Paris ‘97.

"We have about a dozen exhibitors at Farnborough using our pictures and the numbers are growing each show."

Anyone wanting to talk to Kim about the pictures can find her at Flight's chalet next to the press centre or at the UK library on +44 (181) 652 3427.
