Orenda Recip has delivered the first kit to re-engine the Air Tractor agricultural aircraft with its OE-600 V-8 piston. The 450kW (600hp) OE-600 increases power and reduces fuel consumption and maintenance costs.
The OE-600 is in low-rate production at Orenda. Examples have been delivered to re-engine the de Havilland Canada Otter and power the Czech Moravan Z-400 Rhino utility aircraft. China has ordered 21 engines for delivery by year-end to power the Hongdu N-5 agricultural aircraft. Certification for the re-engined de Havilland Canada Beaver is expected by mid-2003.
