ATA starts search

The Air Transport Association (ATA), which lobbies on behalf of the leading US airlines, is seeking a new president and chief executive following the decision by Carol Hallett to step down from the post early.

Hallett, 65, will officially retire in April 2003, but will depart before then if the ATA finds a suitable replacement earlier. Leaders from the main US carriers will select a search company to find the new president in August, with a decision due in the autumn.

Hallett was named president in April 1995. Although she intends to retire after a distinguished career in public service and politics, she says she will continue to work in the aviation community as an adviser and consultant.
