Lessor Nordic Aviation Capital has selected CFM International Leap-1A engines for a batch of Airbus A321neo twinjets.

The company states that it is taking 10 engines for the aircraft, adding that the agreement covers options for another two Leap-powered A321neos.

Chief executive Norman Liu says the deal is the lessor’s “first direct order” with the engine manufacturer.

Nordic Aviation Capital has a portfolio which includes older-variant CFM56-powered A320s and Boeing 737s, as well as A320neos and 737 Max jets respectively with Leap-1A and -1B engines.

“We have previously worked together on various purchase and leaseback agreements for CFM56- and Leap-powered aircraft,” says CFM chief Gael Meheust.

He says the order for Leap-1A engines takes the relationship between the two companies “to the next level”.
