Indian business aircraft maintenance provider and operator Air Works has been appointed a sales agent for Gulfstream to help the US manufacturer exploit the fast-expanding Indian market.

Air Works director Ravi Menon says the sales representation agreement is an expansion of its long-standing relationship with Gulfstream, which includes maintaining G100, GIV and GV aircraft. Previously Gulfstream sold and supported aircraft in India from overseas.

There are nine Gulfstream aircraft now based in India and Menon expects significant growth over the next few years as several existing operators look to expand their fleets.

Air Works now maintains Gulfstream jets for Birla, Essar and Reliance and has been assisting Burla, Reliance and other corporations with new aircraft acquisitions.

Air Works already has relationships with other manufacturers and now maintains eight business jets in the Cessna Citation, Dassault Falcon and Raytheon Hawker families.

The company also uses a non-scheduled operator's permit to fly a Beech King Air that is managed for a customer. Menon says Air Works plans to start operating a Citation Excel soon on behalf of the Poonawalla Group, with the aircraft occasionally available for charter.

Air Works is considering launching a dedicated charter operation, possibly with Gulfstream aircraft, but is not interested in the fractional market.
