Airbus is evaluating an audible warning system for armed doors on its aircraft, to stop inadvertent slide deployment. CM Aero’s Smarthandle warns when the door is in the armed, automatic position and if opened the emergency slide will deploy.
The alert sounds when the user touches or is about to touch the door handle, using a proximity sensor pad. Airbus wants the device to be powered by the aircraft, with a rechargeable battery back-up, and armed and disarmed by the current door arming system.
The manufacturer is considering integrating the warning device into the pressurisation system.
