Just days before the show opened, Airbus delivered its 3,000th production aircraft, and its 171st delivery this year.

The A320 was handed over to JetBlue Airways – the 28th of the type for the US low-cost carrier. More than 1,780 A320 family aircraft have been delivered to date.

Airbus says it took 23 years to deliver its first 1,000 airliners, six to deliver the next thousand, and just three to reach this latest milestone. It plans to deliver 300 aircraft this year.

In 1974, Airbus delivered less than 1% of all commercial jetliners. Its share has risen over the years to today's level of 40%. By next year, it should be delivering about half of the world's new airliners.
