Airbus is to establish an engineering centre in China and will need to recruit around 200 engineers by 2008 to staff it.

To be located in the Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone of Beijing, adjacent to the offices of Airbus China, the facility will perform design work for the A350 programme. It will operate as a joint venture with China Aviation Industry Corporation II (AVIC II).

"China has a solid foundation in the aviation industry," says Philippe Delmas, Airbus executive vice- president. "We believe that the Chinese engineers will be able to make great contributions to the design of Airbus aircraft in the future."
