The airline industry will be looking at greater segmentation in its economy cabins in order to regain value from passengers.

“My vision of the future is that there will be a lot more premium economy cabins as we see a division between tourist economy passengers and premium economy passengers,” said Klaus Brauer, Boeing’s director, passenger satisfaction and revenue, speaking at yesterday’s opening press conference.

The packed conference heard how both the Airbus A350XWB and Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner were designed with flexibility in mind in order to cater for the changing demands of the airlines.

Show organisers Reed Exhibitions were praised for the growing success of the Hamburg show which Brauer described as “The world’s show for the interiors industry.”  Details were also revealed of the new Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas in Long Beach, which is to feature an impressive series of seminars over the three day show (September 9 to 11).

Seminar director Gillian Jenner told the conference that a “fabulous” list of speakers had already been lined up. As well as Boeing’s Brauer, other major speakers include Bob Lange, head of Airbus aircraft interiors marketing, Tom Plant, vice-president/general manager, BE Aerospace; Robert Smith, senior market analyst, IMDC, Brett Muney, general manager product development, JetBlue Airways and Richard Ford, executive creative director, Landor Associates.

“It is still early days but we are very excited about having such a high level of support already,” Jenner said.
