Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet has signed a letter of intent covering 25 Bombardier Q400 turboprops and purchase rights for a further 25.
The deal was announced this morning at the Paris air show and makes the airline become the first in India to launch the high-density 86-capacity version. SpiceJet already operates 20 Q400s, deployed in 78-seat configurations.
"The acquisition will help us further increase connectivity to smaller towns and cities and help realise [Indian] prime minister Narendra Modi's vision of ensuring that every Indian can fly," states SpiceJet managing director Ajay Singh.
Bombardier gives the deal a potential list-price value of $1.78 billion.
