Delta Airlines is to begin daily flights between Atlanta and Tokyo on 3 June and from Portland to Osaka and Fukuoka on 1 November. It is to start a daily connection between Atlanta and Lima on 1 July and services between New York/JFK and Tokyo, Atlanta and Osaka, and Cincinnati and Tokyo, in January 1999.

Continental Airlines is to launch a daily Newark-Santiago service on 30 May and twice daily flights between Charlotte and Houston from 11 June. Continental is also seeking approval for new routes to Tokyo from Newark and Houston and daily flights from Honolulu to Tokyo, Honolulu to Osaka and Newark to Osaka.

British Airways is to start daily services from London/ Gatwick to Denver and from London/Heathrow to Doha, and a twice weekly flight from Heathrow to Abidjan, in June. Weekly flights from Gatwick to Cancun and Tobago were to start on 29 March.

On 1 May Swissair is due to launch four weekly connections from Zurich to Riga, three weekly flights to Baku and Samara, and twice weekly flights to Yerevan and Tiflis. A Zurich-San Francisco service and a three times weekly flight to Jakarta start on 27 May.

American Airlines launched a daily Newark to Heathrow service in March and is to start daily Chicago-Tokyo/Narita and Miami-Gatwick services in May.

Air New Zealand was due to commence six weekly flights between Taipei, Brisbane and Auckland on 29 March.

Fairlines was due to introduce twice daily Paris/Charles de Gaulle-Milan/Malpensa service, a daily Nice-Malpensa flight, and a three times daily CDG-Nice service on 5 March.

AB Airlines will introduce daily Birmingham-Shannon and London/Stansted-Shannon services on 22 May.

Eurowings was set to launch a daily London/Stansted-Dresden service on 20 March.

EVA Air and Air Nippon are to codeshare from Taipei to Osaka from 1 April.

Malaysia Airlines was due to start a service from Kuala Lumpur to Newark via Dubai.

Northwest Airlines is due to start daily services from Osaka to Taipei on 5 April.

TWA is to begin a St Louis-Tokyo daily service on 1 June 1999 and will codeshare with Delta to Osaka and Nagoya through Portland and Los Angeles.

All Nippon Airways was due to start three times weekly Osaka to Yangon services via Bangkok on 29 March.

United Airlines is due to start a daily Chicago/O'Hare-Osaka service in June and a Washington/Dulles-San Salvador service in July.

Debonair is to launch a three times weekly Dusseldorf Express to Hamburg service on 1 April.

Lufthansa was due to launch a five times weekly Munich to Sarajevo flight and three times weekly Frankfurt to Amman service on 29 March.

City Bird will launch a four times weekly service from Brussels to Montreal on 4 May and operate a twice weekly Sao Paulo service for Sabena from 6 May.

Sabena is to start a twice weekly flight from Brussels to Ajaccio in Corsica on 29 March and a four times daily Brussels-Birmingham service on 5 April.

BA franchisee GB Airways was due to start a Gatwick-Lisbon service on 29 March.

KLM Cityhopper is due to start a thrice daily Amsterdam-Bergen service on 1 June.

Midwest Express will start flying from Milwaukee to Hartford, Connecticut.

Transwede has been renamed Braathens Sverige and has introduced two-class cabins.
