Canadian Air Cargo and American Airlines Cargo begin an alliance on 1 September. Canadian Air Cargo will be general sales agent for its US partner in Canada and American will be GSA for Canadian Air Cargo in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Continental Airlines plans to introduce daily services from New York/Newark to Lisbon in May 1997, using a Boeing 757. Its seasonal once-weekly Newark-Düsseldorf service will become a year-round daily DC-10 flight in February 1997.

Virgin Atlantic is to launch a thrice-weekly service from London/Heathrow to Johannesburg on 2 October, using an Airbus A340.

Air UK has extended its codesharing agreement with KLM to cover KLM Cityhopper routes between Amsterdam and Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Southampton, and Air UK's new London/City-Amsterdam service. On 1 September, Eurowings and KLM were to start codesharing from Cologne-Bonn to Amsterdam.

Lufthansa now offers a weekly nonstop service between Frankfurt and Shanghai.

Jet Airways has introduced three daily flights between Delhi and Calcutta and four daily flights between Srinagar and Jammu.

Malaysia Airlines plans to launch a Kuala Lumpur-Harare service at the end of 1996.

TAM of Brazil has bought control of the Paraguayan airline Lapsa, which has rights to fly to New York, Miami, Paris and Madrid.

All Nippon Airways plans to operate twice weekly services from Tokyo/Narita to Jakarta and Denpasar in October, using a B767-300.

Lufthansa introduced twice weekly flights from Newcastle to Munich via Birmingham in July, using a Canadair RJ.

Air Canada and Lufthansa were to launch daily codeshare services to Athens and Prague from Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver via Frankfurt in September.

United Parcel Service has launched a six weekly service

from Anchorage to Hong Kong via Osaka/Kansai.

TAP is to suspend services to Zimbabwe in October. Northwest Airlines has rescheduled the start of Seattle-Jakarta services from July to October, while South African Airways has postponed the introduction of Johannesburg-Tokyo flights from November 1996 until April 1997.
