Air Canada will commence its first Middle Eastern service with a twice weekly flight from Toronto to Tel Aviv from 20 June.

Northwest is to launch a Detroit-London/Gatwick service at the beginning of March. The carrier has purchased the route from Delta, in a deal awaiting US government approval.

American Airlines is to begin a Miami-Frankfurt service from the beginning of March.

Cathay Pacific begins a third Indonesian service from Hong Kong when it flies to Surabaya from the start of June.

Qantas is to resume Melbourne-Sydney-Beijing services from the end of March and will link Melbourne with Kansai/Osaka, Manila and Bangkok from early April. At the same time the carrier is discontinuing its Manchester extension from London/Heathrow.

Lauda Air has set up its own sales, marketing and reservations unit in Australia. The Austrian independent is negotiation for an increase in services to four times weekly.

Air Malta will begin a weekly service from Malta to Copenhagen in mid-April.

Ukraine International Airlines has begun weekly services to Rome and Barcelona from Kiev.

Austrian Airlines and Air China have signed a block space agreement on Austrian's twice weekly flight from Vienna to Beijing. The non-stop service is to begin at the end of March.

British Midland is to begin services from East Midlands airport to Nice, Palma and Malaga from the end of March.

GB Airways will start four weekly services from London/Gatwick to both Murcia and Valencia from May - the first new routes for the carrier as a British Airways franchisee.

Air UK begins a twice daily service to Zurich and a daily service to Madrid from London/Stansted in March.

El Al has announced the launch of a weekly service between Tel Aviv and New Delhi using a Boeing 747.

Skywest Airlines, a Delta feeder, will start operations to Albuquerque and Tucson from Salt Lake City in May.
