Seven major airlines have chosen the new Flight Management System (FMS), produced jointly by Sextant Avionique and Smiths Industries, for their Airbus fleets.

Air France, America West, Asiana, China Northwest, China Southwest, US Airways and one other undisclosed US major, have bought the system for both retrofit use and new production aircraft.

In total, the airlines operate more than 800 A319/A320/A321 and A330/340 aircraft.

Jean-Robert Martin, Sextant Avionique chairman and chief executive officer, says: "Our new FMS marks a significant advance over the current generation of systems."
