Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is ordering another five Boeing 777Fs, doubling its outstanding orders for the freighter model.
All 777Fs are powered by General Electric GE90 engines.
Its SkyCargo division has two owned and nine leased 777Fs and it has been awaiting delivery of five more of the type from this year – leasing three Boeing 747 freighters as bridge capacity in the interim.
The company says the additional 777Fs will be delivered over the course of 2025-26.
During the last fiscal year to 31 March, SkyCargo’s freight carriage increased by 18% to 2.2 million tonnes.
The airline says its freighter fleet will reach 17 aircraft – a mix of 777Fs, 747s and converted 777 freighters – by 2026, expanding main-deck cargo capacity by 30%.
Emirates Group chair Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum says the additional 777Fs are a “step forward” for its long-term strategic plan.
“The next phase of our strategy will include a full assessment for our future freighter fleet, reviewing all aircraft options to ensure we are best-equipped to respond to the evolving demands of the market,” he adds.
Boeing lists Emirates’ order backlog as comprising 245 aircraft – including 205 777Xs, 30 787s, and the 10 777Fs. Emirates also has 65 Airbus A350-900s on order.
