In a move similar to that taken during the Asian financial crisis of 1997-8, Singapore has decided to drop landing fees at Changi Airport to assist businesses to weather the economic downturn. Charges will fall by 10% for a year from 15 October in a move that will cost $11 million. Hong Kong International Airport is also extending a 15% reduction in landing and parking charges until 30 September 2002. The scheme was supposed to end in March.
