Pulkovo Airlines is close to securing finance from European banks to carry out a $60 million modernisation of Pulkovo-2 passenger terminal at its base at St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport. The airline will provide about $12 million of the funding. The modernisation will be completed by 2003, boosting the airport's passenger capability to 2.5 million a year. The expansion will help the airline expand its international operations. A report prepared for the French Government favours a third Parisian airport as the only way to avoid major delays as Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports become saturated. While not mentioning sites, the report says the new airport should be "within half-an-hour journey time by high-speed train". Beauvilliers, near Chartres, has been mentioned before, along with sites in Picardy and the Marne. London Heathrow Airport is expanding its rail shuttle link with a service to local mainline station Hayes & Harlington. The link will start next year, using the Heathrow Express line which connects the airport to London Paddington station.
