Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) has shelved design work on its proposed Airtruck cargo aircraft, which was once evaluated by FedEx Express as a potential Boeing 727 replacement. The $12 million twin-turboprop design would have been able to carry five standard-size cargo containers (with a payload of up to 13t) over a range of around 1,600km (860nm) at a speed of around 300kt (555km/h). IAI has shelved all design work and will "wait for another opportunity" for the market to emerge.
