Cirrus Design has revamped its SR20 two-seat piston single, dubbed the SR20A. Meanwhile, the manufacturer is hoping for a sales boost for its single-engined products following the launch of a US fractional ownership scheme offering shares in the SR20 and the larger SR22.

The SR20A incorporates a gross weight increase of 45kg (100lb) to 1,362kg and a useful load of 430kg. Cirrus has also borrowed the engine cowl design from its bigger SR22 stablemate, removing the landing light from the engine inlet incorporating it within a streamlined mount.

Duluth, Minnesota-based Cirrus has added two option packages for the SR20 - the Goodrich Skywatch traffic-alert system and Sandel's SN3308 electronic horizontal situation indicator.

Cirrus is now producing one aircraft a day and recently delivered its 200th model, says president Alan Klapmeier. The order backlog remains "above 650 aircraft", he adds.

The manufacturer is hoping to swell production of its SR20/22 types through a new regional fractional ownership programme operated by Atlanta-based AirShares Elite. Under the terms of the scheme a quarter-share in a SR22 is priced at $50,000. Monthly management and occupied hourly fees are also levied at $575 and $55 respectively. AirShares Elite will also provide positioning services or a pilot for the owner. The company plans to operate at least six SR22s at each of its planned regional bases.
