Thai Airways International is to lease six Airbus A350-900s from Kuwaiti lessor Aviation Lease and Finance Company (ALAFCO), the lessor has confirmed.
The lessor detailed the plan in a statement to the Kuwaiti stock exchange.
It said the lease to Thai would extend to 12 years and begin in 2017 when the twinjets were delivered.
ALAFCO ordered six A350-900s during the week of the Paris air show, an agreement which took its total firm commitment to 18.
The A350-900 is to be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
ALAFCO said the value of the aircraft at list prices amounted to around $1.6 billion, and that its monthly lease rate was 1%.
Thai had previously outlined plans to take 12 A350s and eight Boeing 787s as part of a fleet expansion comprising 37 aircraft.
