Seattle-based Alaska Airlines has revealed that nearly its entire fleet of Boeing 737s is now equipped with Aircell's Gogo in-flight internet service.
After the remaining installations are completed later this month, 92% of the carrier's fleet will feature in-flight internet connectivity.
Nine of Alaska's 117 aircraft will not be installed with Gogo, said an Alaska spokeswoman. Three of these are leased passenger Boeing 737-400s that are scheduled to exit service next year. Alaska's freighter and combi aircraft will also not be equipped with Gogo. According to a 16 May filing with the US Securities and Exchange commission, the airline operates one 737-400 freighter and five 737-400 combis.
Alaska had previously tested Row 44's satellite-based internet service. However, the carrier announced in February 2010 that it had ultimately selected "Aircell's Gogo service to speed fleet-wide installation and Wi-Fi availability for customers".
