Alcoa, a leading producer of aluminium for the aerospace industry (Stand D125), is showing new products here at the show which it claims are helping customers reduce weight and cost.

New equipment and implementation of the Alcoa Production System at the company's plants in Hanover, Germany and Massena, New York are improving delivery time and reducing process waste, says Richard Melville, vice-president, Alcoa Mill Products. "Our focus on meeting customer demand, as well as our product capabilities in extrusions and flat rolled products, offers customers unmatched economies in both manufacturing and engineering.

"We have increased our productive capacity through equipment and efficiencies. We are working with customers in more monolithic structures with the goal of lowering their total cost."

The reduction in cost is coming, in part, from increased capacity for aluminium sheet and plate heat-treating. These have increased by over 30%, says Melville. His message to visitors is Alcoa's commitment to research and development: "It's what sets us apart in the industry."
