The company is also showcasing its involvement with the Cosmo-SkyMed, and Sicral programmes.

Cosmo-SkyMed is the new constellation of radar satellites for Earth observation, developed for the Italian Space Agency and the Italian Defence Administration.

The system consists of a dual constellation (civil and military) of four satellites equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) operating in the X-band and capable of observing day and night in any weather conditions.

Alenia Spazio is prime contractor for the entire system and is building the on-board segment using active planar antennas.

Sicral is the first Italian system for secure military communications and operates in the UHF, SHF and EHF/Ka bands. The system, which has been in service since May 2001, can be used for land, sea and air operations. Alenia Spazio designed, built and integrated the satellite as well as the telecommunications networks for the mission control and satellite control centres.

The company is now building Sicral 1B, to extend the operating capabilities of the first Sicral series up to 2019.
