Alitalia is to start introducing a new premium-economy cabin on three long-haul services from July.

It will bring the product to its Milan Malpensa-Tokyo Narita service in July, with Malpensa-New York and Malpensa-Miami flights following in August.

The new product, 'Classica Plus', arranged across 21 seats on the airline's Airbus A330s, will include priority check-in desks plus 9kg extra baggage allowance.

New seats in the premium-economy cabin will recline to 120° and offer around 20% more legroom than economy class, says the airline. They will incorporate a 10.6in (27cm) seat-back in-flight entertainment screen with USB port.

Enhanced service for boarding passengers will include hot towels and a welcome drink. Hot meals and snacks, or breakfast, will be offered depending on the flight departure time, together with noise-isolating headphones.
