Alitalia close to joining alliance

Alitalia is close to joining the SkyTeam alliance. The Italian flag carrier says that it hopes to "initiate the start-up process by the end of summer". Negotiations with SkyTeam's European leader Air France have gradually intensified since Alitalia chief executive Francesco Mengozzi took over at the start of the year. However, a final decision needs the approval of the new Italian Government.
