ALITALIA MANAGEMENT has disclosed that the airline made further heavy losses during 1994, as it continues to fight a wage dispute with its pilots.

Management revealed the extent of losses during talks with pilots' unions which are seeking wage rises in exchange for increased productivity. The loss is being put at L280 billion ($175 million) for the parent airline, although group results should be helped by a profit from other holdings such as Aeroporti di Roma.

The result still marks an improvement on 1993, when the deficit was L368 billion, but the airline faces a crisis over its L2,700 billion debt, given net capital of around L600 billion.
