The US Federal Aviation Administration has authorised Fine Air to resume flying. The US cargo carrier expects to restart operations to Latin America within the next several weeks.

Fine Air was grounded after the fatal crash in August of one of its McDonnell Douglas DC-8-61 freighters during take-off from Miami Airport in Florida. Safety investigators are examining whether cargo shifted during the take-off because of failure to secure maindeck cargo pallets. The FAA says that Fine Air was already being investigated for cargo-related problems at the time of the crash.

Fine Air was cleared to fly after implementing new cargo-loading and handling procedures. In recent weeks, the all-cargo airline has re-trained cargo handlers, flight dispatchers and flightdeck crews.
