ALLIANT TECHSYSTEMS and Martin Marietta have been selected by the US Air Force to compete for development and production of the wind-corrected munitions dispenser (WCMD) kits.
The USAF awarded Alliant $21 million and Martin Marietta $9.5 million to begin engineering and manufacturing development work.
Under the programme, the two firms will develop and demonstrate all-weather autonomous guidance kits for air-delivered weapons which dispense submunitions. The WCMD will correct for wind effects to permit accurate delivery of munitions to their planned dispensing point from any altitude.
