Senior stakeholders from across the industry signed a joint declaration at the ALTA Airline Leaders Forum calling for Latin American and Caribbean Governments to redouble their efforts in the development of aviation infrastructure to support the region's growth ambitions.
The declaration was signed by Airports Council International (ACI) director general Angela Gittens, ACI Latin America and Caribbean president Philippe Baril, ALT executive director Alex de Gunten, CANSO Latin America and Caribbean affairs director Javier Vanegas and Tony Tyler, director general of IATA.
The group are urging governments to speed up the development of air transport infrastructure and to advance economic regulatory oversight in order to attract much-needed investment. They also want revenue generated from aviation to be ploughed back into the industry to fund infrastructure development, urging an end to taxes on aviation that are not reinvested in the industry.
