AMERICA WEST Airlines has concluded an agreement with Airbus Industrie to revise its A320 order, which will see it taking ten additional aircraft, as A319s or A321s under "better financial terms and conditions".
According to the agreement, the carrier's existing order backlog for 24 A320s has been reconfirmed, but America West is still free to cancel 12 of the aircraft. A further ten aircraft have been added, which will be delivered as either the smaller A319 or larger A321.
The A320 order was originally placed in 1990, but no deliveries were made as the deal was effectively suspended following the airline's Chapter 11 filing, from which it has since emerged. When the order was placed, the airline selected the International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500, but under the new agreement the engine supplier has not been named. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 1998.
