American Airlines has received bankruptcy court approval to take delivery of two Boeing 777-300ERs from February.
The aircraft are registered N720AN (manufacturer's serial number 33522) and N721AN (31546), and will be delivered in February and March, respectively, according to a US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York court filing.
Fort Worth-based American says that it is working with adviser SkyWorks Capital to "identify and negotiate favourable financing" for a sale and leaseback (SLB) transaction for the aircraft, according to a filing on 19 December 2012.
The carrier signed SLBs with Avolon Aerospace for one 777-300ER and with Guggenheim Aviation Partners for two of the type in 2012.
American is slated to take delivery of six of the aircraft from Boeing, according to the filing.
The airline is scheduled to begin flights on the 777-300ER on 31 January from Dallas-Fort Worth to Sao Paulo. This was delayed from 13 December 2012 due to production issues related to the first class seats.
American received two 777-300ERs in 2012 and has firm orders for an additional 11, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database. It has options for two more of the type.
