American Eagle is beginning jet service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston's Hobby Airport on 7 December with Embraer ERJ-145s.

Although the regional carrier - the world's largest - is initially only replacing two of 11 daily turboprop round-trip services between the two airports, American Eagle says it will add two more jet flights on 28 December. The carrier adds that it expects to be operating an all-jet schedule on the Dallas/Fort Worth-Houston Hobby route by next spring.

Not only will the new ERJ-145 service to Hobby represent American Eagle's first use of the regional jet from Dallas/Fort Worth, but the announcement comes just before American itself inaugurates jet service from the downtown Houston Airport.

The carrier will operate three daily round-trip flights to both New York LaGuardia and Austin, with the carrier offering same-plane service on each trip from New York through Hobby to Austin.

American Eagle has confirmed its widely expected order for 75 Embraer ERJ-135s, taking options on another 75. American Airlines' regional airline sister company now has 12 ERJ-145s in service, with deliveries continuing at the rate of two a month until its order for 42 is completed. American Eagle also holds options on a further 25 ERJ-145s.
