American Airlines is to retire two Boeing 727-200s and a damaged Fokker 100 in addition to the 19 TWA McDonnell Douglas DC-9s that parent AMR will pension off in the next nine months.

American is operating newly acquired TWA as an independent subsidiary until the two airlines' operations merge next year.

The 727s were earmarked for retirement because their leases expire at the end of the year, while the Fokker 100 was damaged beyond economic repair when its right main landing gear collapsed during a recent landing.
