American Airlines continues to expand its operation at Los Angeles International airport, announcing it will begin flights from the airport to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport on 5 March 2015.
Dallas-based American will operate the route three times daily using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the carrier says.
The new route will bring to 55 the number of cities served by American from Los Angeles.
The carrier notes that the flights will complement other routes from Los Angeles that it will start flying next month, including those to Sao Paulo, Edmonton, Vancouver, San Antonio and Tampa.
American will compete against both Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines on the route, according to flight schedules.
Delta flies 10 times daily between Los Angeles and Atlanta using a mix of 737s, 757s and 767s, while Southwest serves the route three times daily using 737s, Innovata data shows.
