LAN plans rival to Gol

LAN is converting LAN Express, its Chilean domestic unit, into a low-cost cross-border rival to Brazil's Gol. LAN Express hopes to complete its conversion by the end of 2007. It will not match Gol's growing network, but LAN plans to defend the Southern Cone of Chile, Peru and Argentina.

Wayra Peru suspends flights

Braziil's Synergy Group plans to relaunch Wayra Peru as soon as it finds a new Peruvian partner. It closed the Fokker 100 operator late in November after a dispute with Peruvian businessman Peter Koechlin, who has a 51% shareholding.

ACE buys Aeroman

The holding company for Air Canada Technical Services (ACTS) has agreed to buy an 80% stake in Grupo TACA's maintenance division Aeroman. ACE will pay $44.7 million for El Salvador-based Aeroman and give TACA an estimated 7% stake in ACTS.
