Reduced vertical separation minima (RVSM) came into force in skies above flight level 290 (29,000ft/8,840m) over the whole of the Americas on 20 January. Monitoring to ensure standards of compliance is being carried out. RVSM, already implemented in Europe and the Middle East, reduces minimum vertical separation from 2,000ft to 1,000ft, providing six additional flight levels between FL290 and FL410.
