The Dynamics division of Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS) has won an order worth $9.4 million to upgrade part of the integrated training range (ITR) of the United Arab Emirates air and defence force.

The contract is for the supply and integration of GPS-based equipment to enhance the air-to-air combat training aspects of the range and will provide the UAE with a rangeless, fully-autonomous air combat training capability.

This is the latest in a series of contracts that AMS has won since the early 1990s to provide, update and maintain the instrumentation for the UAE¹s training and test range.

The new GPS-based system will enter service this year and will provide time-space position accuracy, airborne electronics and state-of-the-art integrated display and debriefing stations.

Matra BAe Dynamics, EADS Aerospatiale Matra Missiles and the missile activity of Alenia Marconi Systems are expected to combine into a new company, MBDA later this year. This will create a missile systems company with a turnover of more than $1.7 billion and an order book of more than $11 billion, ranked second in the world with a presence in more than 70 countries.
