Telesat Canada has awarded Astrium a contract for a new communications satellite to replace Anik F1, one of six Boeing 702 spacecraft experiencing loss of power due to a flawed solar-array concentrator. Anik F1R will be based on Astrium's Eurostar E3000 bus, with a launch weight of 4,000kg (8,800lb) and 35m (115ft)-span solar arrays generating 10kW. Boeing is building Anik F2.
