The new owners of Ansett Flight Simulation Centre are considering acquisitions and international expansion to take the former Ansett Airlines operation forward. The Melbourne-based business has already doubled in size in terms of customers in the past six months and added a Bombardier Dash 8 Q100/200/300 analogue/EFIS simulator to its stable, writes Emma Kelly.
David Gilmour and partner Wayne Bos, who came from the corporate world with no prior aviation experience, purchased the former Ansett Airlines business from its administrator last October.
The centre has six Level D simulators – a Boeing 737-300 EFIS, 767-200 EFIS, Saab 340 A/B EFIS, Bombardier CRJ200 and Dash 8 – plus a Level B Fairchild Metro III/23. The Dash 8 simulator, which was supplied by FlightSafety International, arrived in January and has been used for training for the last few weeks. The company is looking at opportunities for more simulators, says Gilmour.
The centre is looking to become a one-stop training shop for regional operators and to become a full-service training centre for airlines.
