Lufthansa's former chief marketing officer, Thierry Antinori, is to become Emirates' new sales chief in October, according to a report in Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

Antinori would thereby succeed Richard Vaughan, who is to retire next month.

Emirates has declined to comment on the appointment.

Antinori left Lufthansa Group in late March just days before he was due to take the helm at Austrian Airlines on 1 April.

He had served as the German carrier's chief marketing officer before he was, initially, appointed chairman for the Austrian subsidiary in December. Later in February, however, Lufthansa named him as future chief executive of the Vienna-based carrier.

When he suddenly left the company, Lufthansa said this was due to "career plans outside the group".
