The US Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration to withdraw airworthiness directives requiring wing changes on American Champion Scout and Aeronca/Bellanca/ Champion Champ-series light aircraft. The association believes that a visual inspection technique developed by the Citabria Owners Group eliminates the need for additional access holes to allow inspection of the aircraft's wooden wing spars for compression cracks.
