BGT HAS REVEALED a full-scale mock-up of its planned next-generation anti-radar missile (ARAMIS), to succeed the HARM in the German air force inventory by about 2005. According to project manager Eberhard Moller, the ram-rocket-powered missile is to have a dual-mode, passive-radar/active infra-red seeker. The engine is being developed by Daimler-Benz Aerospace subsidiary Bayern-Chemie. The missile body will generate lift, leaving the need for only four guidance vanes at the rear. The programme was begun in partnership with Matra of France, but the French side withdrew. The concept phase will continue until 1999, when BGT hopes to have carried out ground test-firings.
