Singapore's Minister of State for Defence, Mr Cedric Foo, expressed confidence over control of the much-publicised recent SARS epidemic ahead of the Asian Aerospace exhibition in Singapore next year.

Asian Aerospace 2004, will be held from February 24-29 at the Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore for the last time, before moving to a new purpose-built site in 2006.

During a briefing on Asian Aerospace the minister also confirmed the shortlist of candidates for the island republic's next generation fighter selection would be completed in August, with a firm decision on an order for 20 aircraft coming in the middle of next year, said the minister.

Mr Ed Ng, president of Asian Aerospace Pte Ltd, the show organiser, who also addressed the briefing, confirmed that 85% of the available space at the show has now been confirmed.

The new show site, at a coastal location near the existing site in Singapore, is being developed to cope with growth of the event which was launched in 1981, with 80% more indoor exhibition space and almost double the available space for aircraft static display.

Mr Ng said full details of the new site would be released after final regulatory approvals by Singapore authorities.

Ms Trixie Webster, vice president of Asian Aerospace Pte Ltd added: "New features of the show, which have been introduced in response to exhibitor feedback, will include special features on UAVs and aviation security.
