Singapore's Asian Aerospace, one of the two big air shows of 2004, kicks off next week with the region's manufacturers and airlines in bullish mood. From South Korea's KAI with its T-50 trainer, to Japanese industry's involvement in the Boeing 7E7 to the space ambitions of China, India and others, Asia's aerospace sector hopes it can finally break out of the global industry's second division and effectively compete with or partner its counterparts in Europe and North America. At the same time, a flurry of new low-cost carriers have given fresh impetus to the region's airline community, which - new scares over bird flu aside - has rebounded from the SARS crisis of 12 months ago to again spearhead the recovery in the world airline market. We also preview the show itself and list the exhibitors
