The two Asian Star Alliance carriers, Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Thai Airways International, are examining a joint shuttle service linking Singapore Changi and Bangkok Don Muang.

The service would ease concerns, which arose with SIA's entry into Star, about competition on the Singapore-Bangkok route. The agreement could also involve codesharing and schedule co-ordination, allowing for more frequent services between the rival hubs.

The three major Japanese airlines have concluded a similar link on the Tokyo-Osaka route. They say the move will allow them to compete more effectively with high-speed trains and start-ups.
