Asiana Airlines has expanded its maintenance partnership with Lufthansa Technik to include component support for on-order Airbus A350 fleet and overhauls for General Electric CF6 engines powering Boeing 747s and 767s.
LHT says the South Korean airline signed an hour-based, 15-year contract covering component and spare-part pool access for the A350s. The first aircraft is scheduled to be delivered later this month.
Components will be supplied from LHT's warehouses in Germany and Hong Kong, to which the MRO group has recently located the management of its component maintenance activities. LHT adds that its Hong Kong facility will be expanded to accommodate the contract with Asiana.
Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that Asiana has 12 A350-900s and eight A350-800s on order. The airline is the sole remaining customer for the smaller type.
The CF6 deal covers repairs and overhauls over a four-year period from 2018. Asiana operates 12 747-400s and eight 767s, Flight Fleets Analyzer indicates.
LHT and Asiana have been co-operating in various areas for several years. The MRO group provides component, engine and APU support for Asiana's A320 fleet, and at its Philippine site conducts airframe maintenance on the airline's A380s.
