The UK Ministry of Defence released its request for best and final offers (BAFO) for the Airborne Stand-Off Radar (ASTOR) project at the end of November. Invitations were issued to the two project-definition teams, led by Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. As a third, and contentious, option the MoD is also considering a co-operative development of a variant of the US Northrop Grumman E-8 Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System. A decision on the £750 million ($1.2 billion) programme is expected by the third quarter of 1998.
